If we put it simply, a 2 wire thermostat is one which has only 2 wires coming out of its backside. When it comes to low voltage systems, a 2 wire thermostat is usually known as a “heat only thermostat” and is used for systems like a gas furnace (with only heating option).
Can you override a thermostat?
Programmable thermostat programs can be changed at any time. Temporary overrides are useful when you wish to temporarily change the temperature. Even if it is only for a few weeks, it is easier to change the programming on the thermostat than to manually override it each day.
How can I trick my thermostat?
So how do you do that? The trick is to use something to heat up the area around the thermostat. For example, taking a microwaved heating pad and putting it next to the thermostat for a couple of minutes should be enough to raise the air temperature to the point where the air conditioner will kick on.
Why the thermostat is not working?
Try replacing the batteries, then check for a blown fuse or tripped breaker in the electrical panel. If the thermostat is still unresponsive, make sure the breaker is shut off and remove the cover. If the wiring looks corroded, consider replacing the thermostat.
