Question: Is the Friendzone a real thing?

The friend zone isnt real — except as a sexist idea. Lets start with where it came from. It was Joey Tribbiani of Friends, that great philosopher of love, who used the term to describe Ross situation with Rachel. But according to Joey, he had taken too long to make a move — and that put him right in the friend zone.

Is the Friendzone really that bad?

As Chelsea Cristene of Role Reboot noted in her 2013 article, the “friend zone” can harm opposite sex relationships for a couple of reasons. Mainly, it puts a label on your friend and makes it seem as though they have done something wrong to only be worthy of the friend title. It can also be dangerous for women.

What causes the Friendzone?

Another reason why people end up in the friend zone is that they are too afraid, uncertain, or passive. Many people approach someone they are attracted to as just a friend because it is easier and less emotionally risky.
