Question: How old should a piece of furniture be to be considered antique?

Antiques are items which must be at least 100 years old. That means, as of the date of this posting, an antique item was made on or before April of 1918. Items over 300 years of age generally fall into one of two categories depending upon whether they are manmade creations or natural finds.

Is 50 year old furniture antique?

The age factor is subjective: general antique stores label objects 50 years or older as antiques. Fine antique dealers consider objects 150 years and older to be antique. In the East, an antique is Queen Anne or earlier; in the West, its any piece of furniture that came across the mountains in a wagon.

Is furniture from 1960 considered antique?

Vintage furniture is anything thats at least 20 years old. If a piece of furniture is at least 20 years old, but has been restored, its still considered vintage. Within the vintage category, newer pieces, especially those dating from the 1950s to1980, are generally considered retro.
