Do new subwoofers smell? Most new subwoofers produce a smell when their voice coil heats for the first time. When this happens, it means there is an excess glue on the voice coil that burns as the voice coil heats. And this results in a burnt smell from the subwoofers.

What causes a subwoofer to smell burnt?

Yes, subwoofers need a break-in period to reach their optimum sound quality. It takes anywhere from 20 to 100 hours to break in a subwoofer. If you have a box subwoofer, the break-in period can be shortened slightly since it is already in a box. During the break-in period, your subwoofer will sound harsh and tinny.

How long does it take to break in new subwoofers?

We suggest 20-24 hours for a solid break in time. You can set it with a good clean signal overnight. Once this is done you are ready to install and be on your way.

Can a subwoofer catch fire?

Do subwoofers need broken?

Unlike vocal cords, a subwoofer only needs to be broken-in once. Some will say that you dont need to break your subs in at all, some will say you need to break them in by playing pink noise at half volume for hours on end, and some will even say to do that at a higher volume than normal.

Like breaking in the engine on a new car, it needs this brief warm-up period to adjust to its surroundings. Take the family out for dinner: This is an important part of break-in. The dinner phase is two hours of aggressive break-in, before which even attempting to set-up and dial-in your sub is a waste of time.
