Why do mothers love their child so much?
Much of what happens in a new mothers amygdala has to do with the hormones flowing to it. The region has a high concentration of receptors for hormones like oxytocin, which surge during pregnancy. Oxytocin also increases as women look at their babies, or hear their babies coos and cries, or snuggle with their babies.
Why is the love for your child so strong?
Oxytocin is a chemical in the brain released during times when a person feels love and connection. It has been shown to help parents bond with their children, adding a sense of trust and support between them. This bond most likely helps our brain produce and use oxytocin, causing a child to feel more positive emotions.
