18 Pursuant to a 1995 amendment to the ordinance, the minimum age of marriage was raised to 18 for both men and women. A subsequent provision, however, authorizes parents to consent to a marriage involving a minor. If a parent unreasonably withholds consent, a court may authorize the marriage.

The age of majority is 18 years in terms of the Age of Majority Ordinance (1865) as amended by the Age of Majority (amendment) Act No. 17 of 1989.
